Pinoy Pride 7: Banal wins bloody encounter

Lapu Lapu City – AJ “Bazooka” Banal won the battle of the southpaws in last nights Pinoy Pride 7: Battle in Mactan held at the newly built and fully air-conditioned Hoops Dome in Lapu Lapu City. Banal won a match were he spent most of the time chasing the Canadian boxer or hitting the canvass caused by being wrestled by his opponent. Tyson Cave was more bark than bite as his fight plan seem to be just run and make Banal miss with no minimal offense. He was supposed to give a good show but last nights performance was not spectacular.
In the 5th round, there was an accidental clash of head causing a gash in Banal’s right eyebrow. Blood came out from it in the next couple of rounds and eventually ring physician Dr. Jose Unabia decided to end the match in the 8th round.  Sine it ended in the latter rounds, the match went to the scorecards that read 79-73, 78-74 and 78-74 all for AJ Banal of the ALA Boxing Stable. He retains his WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight belt.
The crowd did not enjoy much the main event since they were expecting more out of the flamboyant Tyson Cave. The visitor was quiet boastful in his media interviews hyping the fight. He was a disappointment but it did not that the night lacked action. Well, the undercards were slam-bang affairs.
Undercard Results
Michael “Bruce Lee”  Domingo beat up Indonesian Richard “King Cobra” Samosir.  The fight ended in the 6th round when Samosir told the referee that he can no longer take anymore punishment much to the disgust of his corner.
Lorenzo “Thunderbolt” Villanueva just needed a little over a minute to knockout Eddy Camaro to earn the 21st win of his fast-rising boxing career. It was his 20th knockout win.
Romeo Jakosalem took the RP 140 lb. title with by knocking out Eusebio Baluarte (18-3) in the first round of their championship match. He raised his record to 13 wins with 4 losses and a draw.
Albert Pagara got his 6th win (5 by KO) with his KO victory over Jaime Alin, Jr. (1-2) in the 3rd round of their 6 round bout. Pagara’s uppercut sent Alin flying out of the ring.
Jonathan Refurio (3 wins 2 draws) of Sajulga Stable win via unanimous decision over Jomar Cordinillo (8wins 3 losses) of Tagbilaran City.
Veteran Jun Intor (15-10-6) gave newcomer Cris Leon (0-1-1) a neat boxing lesson to carve out a majority decision win.
Ryan Maano started the night right by knocking out Japanese fighter Yoshinobu Arai to even their records at 2 wins 1 loss and 1 draw. Maano just needed 43 seconds defeat his opponent.
It was another wonderful night of boxing and hopefully it will be the first of many boxing events in Mactan.
